Articles @ Long Grove Web>> Protecting Yourself Against Computer Virus Attacks
These guidelines have been released by antivirus software maker Trend Micro.
Best practices for defending you and your computer against attacks:
- Beware of pages that require software installation. Do not allow new software installation from your browser unless you absolutely trust both the Web page and the provider of the software.
- Scan with updated anti-virus and anti-spyware software any program downloaded through the Internet. This includes any downloads from P2P networks, the Web, and FTP server, regardless of the source.
- Beware of unexpected strange-looking e-mails, regardless of who sent them. Never open attachments or click on links contained in unexpected or strange-looking e-mail messages.
- Enable the "Automatic Update" feature in your Windows operating system and apply new updates as soon as they are available.
- Always have an anti-virus real-time scan service installed and activated on your computer. Regularly check to see that the service is being updated and is running
